I have a GeForce 8800GTX and it is getting really hot, it is getting to like 80 degrees while the cpu and things stay under 40 degrees. I have a Thermaltake A31 Chaser Blue Thunder case with a few fans in it. Any reasons causing the graphics card to get really hot? I have like really good parts except for my graphics card, gonna get a new one after christmas when i get enough money.

My pc specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7 3820 @ 3.60GHz
Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. SABERTOOTH X79 (LGA2011)
RAM: 8.00GB DDR3 @ 667MHz (9-9-9-24)
HDD: 931GB Western Digital WDC WD10EARS-00Y5B1 (SATA)
GPU: 768MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (ASUStek Computer Inc)

Solution
lots of things............ when's the last time you pulled the card apart ( heatsink from pcb ) and cleaned the dust form the heatsink and when's the last time you cleaned up the old thermal paste and reapplied new?

if you're running the newest drivers........... go back a year and run those. i had drivers written for new video card's architecture that ruined a card once. they get pushed beyond their limit s somehow.

don't lose the pads that go on the memory modules. if they fall off during dis-assembly make sure you put them back in the right spot.

yes, the card is getting old. time for a replacement. even a modern low/medium card will be much better.
