Geforce DDR just installed. Why won't it work?

Ok I just built a new computer and everything is fine except when I try to load my driver for my Geforce DDR 32mb card. It is a creative OEM for gateway. When I install the detonator 3 driver and restart my screen is all messed up and the text is all jumbled like Japanese. Any ideas on what's causing this? At first I thought maybe my card was messed up, but with basic drivers from win98 my screen is fine. Problem is it's stuck in 16 bit color and no other options. Any help would really be appreciated.

The Geforce cards with Win98 are strange. When first installed the drivers seem to hold onto remnants of the previous video card. To fix this try the following.

- Download the nVidia reference drivers, Detonator 3, version 6.31. Expand them into a folder.

- Change the Display Adapter to "Standard PCI VGA"

- Reboot the computer to Safe Mode

- While in Safe Mode go into Device Manager and delete any Display Adapters EXCEPT "Standard PCI graphics adapter (VGA)"

- Reboot again (into normal Windows). Windows should detect you new video and give you the option to load your drivers. Select "Have disk" and point the selection to the folder where you stored the reference drivers.

- If you are not given the option and Windows still loads the "Standard PCI graphics adapter (VGA)" driver then run through the Add Hardware option in Control Panel.

- Reboot.

That should do it. Let us know how it works.

p.s. If everything is working correctly you should now load (or reload) the DirectX files. I have found no problems using DirectX 8.0 with a Geforce256 card but if you prefer use 7.0a. (You can't easily go back to 7.0a if you are already using 8.0 but it is possible).

a little more info on your system would be helpful. are you using an old hard drive? if not the advice from phsstpok isn't relevant. could you list all your system's spec.s like mobo, cpu, power supply? other stuff like that might be helpful. just because your card works in 16 color and low res. doesn't mean its not messed up.

Here are the specs on my computer:
OS: Running Win98
Motherboard: Biostar M7VKB
CPU: Tbird 850
HDD: Maxtor 20 gig eide hard drive model number 92048U8. 7200 rpm, ultra dma 66
AGP card: Geforce DDR BUT I am now getting a V7700 32MB DDR GeForce2 GTS Pure from ASUSTek

I am yet to try the first suggestion so I hope it works. I'm not sure if I'll have this problem with my new AGP card, but I imagine it is quite possible.

I also want to add that I'm using an AMD approved 300W power supply. Also my screen isn't giving me that message anymore but the jaberled text for icons and messed up graphics still exists. I'm hoping it's just the card, which i'm sending back since I ordered a Geforce2 gts anyway
