[citation][nom]RobertRupert[/nom]The biased thing is that in the article test never is mentioned that the auto-overclock of the 680 is always on, so you end up comparing an overclocked card with non overclocked cards. An overclocked 7970 will end up getting almost the same performance than the 680.[/citation]

When both cards are overclocked, the 7970 is a little slower, barely, so 7970 at lower price point is a winner. Good job to AMD and nvidia this round! Nvidia took the single card performance crown by a little bit but AMD has the best value again :D

7970 is till a winner. As some people say, when overclocked both cards perform nearly the same, with the plus on the 7970 side due to its better compute capabilites.

Except this isn't true. Read the Xbit labs review where they do both cards in stock and OC-ed form. The 7970 went from 925->1150 on the core and it only managed to TIE a stock 680. The stock 680 meanwhile went from 1006->1186. So it overclocks just about as well as the 7970.

What about a 120Hz monitor? Does this adaptive v-sync even work then?

This might be a pain to hear for you AMD fans out there but the 680 is 10-15% better in overall performance(stock speed btw) while coming at lower price and power consumption. I'm not a fan of either AMD or Nvidia, I love it when the 7970 came out and now the 680 is better and I love that too. Right now the better choice for high end is clearly the 680, at least until AMD lower the price on the 7970 that is, which I hope to be below $470

I love competition. I need to update my computer soon, and this sounds very promising. I hope Nvidias entire lineup is this strong for its segment. This will force major price drops on both companies!

Impressive. But when the price drops of the 5xx series, especially cards like the 570 and 560Ti 448 core to around $250US, two of them puppies in SLI will smoke this card for the same price. Yes, I know we are talking single card with the 680, but SLI is the way to go if you know how to build your rig and manage it correctly.

[citation][nom]yougotjaked[/nom]Ah ok thanks. How long before those cards are out?[/citation]
Rumors are pointing to this August (I looked over them quickly so not so sure. Google GK110 and you'll get what you want to see.

Still wondering if I should get one of these or wait for GK110 which seems to be coming out rather quickly. I wish more manufacturers besides EVGA would make models with more VRAM, also thinking about getting a 4GB perhaps.

Anyhow, GTX500 series already has price drops. GTX 580 seems to have dropped around $80-$100+ average.

Only downside I really see to the GK104s is the forced GPU boost. Seems like it'll be a pain in the long run when you really need to get that overclock in due time.

As said and mentioned, 2.

I believe the EVGA higher end models will be using a mix of 6+8 pin connectors and 8+8.

The great thing is that the dynamic overclocking works even when you overclock it yourself. Many reviews are showing a user overclock of ~1185 mhz, but then the Boost still kicks in to get it up to ~1270 mhz or more.

Just a note that all the reviews were done using the 300.99 drivers, but a new 301.10 WHQL set just came out today, so the driver improvements are already happening.

GTX680 will be a good game card, but for the materials and specification it seems not like a flagship card.I am more interested about the GK110 if it released.

I have been waiting a while for the price wars to start up again. Would be nice to see the 580gtx drop down to around $300 so I can throw a second one in my build.

[citation][nom]kewlmunky[/nom]So what's the $700 card going to be for this series then?[/citation]

Whatever their dual gpu card is. Rumor is it's going to be 2x680's and not 2xGK110's.

Correct. This is the single GPU flagship, successor to the 580 GTX.

It is absolutely the enthusiast, NOT mid-range, card.
Nvidia's next top-end release will be the 690 GTX (or whatever they name it) and it'll be a duel-GPU card, with stock 680 speed (or slightly lower clock speeds) for about $650-750 price range. But as far as Single GPU powerhouses to, the 680 is going to be this series' top dog.

Also,

So not only does this card beat out the 7970 (in the games that matter), it does it at $50 less of a pricetag and offers some nice features. AMD needs to drop their card down to $499 or lower to compete with this.

I'll be holding out for 2x 690s though! Or maybe i'll just buy 3x of these 680s and put my tri sli PCI-E slots to use... hmm. :)

Unless AMD releases another single GPU card, Nvidia is going to hold the crown on single GPU solutions until AMD's 8000 series at least.

If AMD offers up a 7990 duel GPU card, it wouldn't be fair to compare it to a 680, you'd have to wait for a 690 duel GPU card for a good comparison.

Why do people compare duel GPU cards to single GPU cards? ATI will launch this 7990 and Nvidia will crush it or match it with a 690.

Nvidia is king. ATI can have our scraps :p
