Geforce Gtx 770 Heat problem. Safe fan speed?

Hello, so When using Gpu-z And playing Dayz, at 2560x1440 my gpu temp gets to about 83-84.
Im wondering what is a safe fan speed i should increase to?

Really, I have been building PC's for over 30 yrs and never had an issue with a video card overheating from it being set to auto. On auto it will take the video card fan to 100%, setting it at 70% would be FAR more likely to overheat the card under high load.

You won't ever damage your video card by increasing the fan speed.

You should never leave it on auto, that's how it's overheating in the first place.

Just set it to 70% and go. It's really that simple. If that's still too hot, then increase the fan speed.

Auto doesn't cause overheating. It nearly always prevents it.
If you set it to a static percentage it'll always run at that speed even at idle and it'll be annoyingly loud.
Not very good advice imo, sorry.

The 770, even at 100% is not annoyingly loud.

Yes setting it at a static/stable % will keep it at that speed consistantly... which is the point - provided you set it high enough in the first place.

Leaving it on auto will cause overheating - it will when the GPU is under 100% usage while gaming. Unless you set a custom curve. This isn't new.

Please stop, sigh. It would definitely be annoyingly loud at 100%. Like, really loud. I wouldn't recommend a static setting as you shouldn't be able to hear your GPU fans when browsing the web or watching videos.
Auto doesn't cause overheating. If the temps get too high it will automatically ramp up the fan speed until it's at a decent temp, even if it needs to go to 100%. Enough said.

I'm not looking to argue. I will tell you from 15 years of building gaming PCs, and using them... that if you forget to modify your fan speeds before gaming, you will get much higher temps than if you implement a solution before gaming - such as modifying that fan speed to an acceptable level.

If you just boot your computer and start gaming without doing anything else, your GPU temps will be much higher than a custom curve or running them at a high enough speed to begin with.

Nobody here wants to argue. We just don't want to see the OP getting wrong advice.
Yes, if you manually set the fan speed higher than auto will take it it'll reduce the temps. But that doesn't mean auto will make it overheat, it will simply allow the GPU to get to it's highest safe operating temperature before ramping up fan speeds. :)

Have you ever personally used a 770? Let alone used one while it was at 100% fan speed?

If not, then don't comment on it. I have, and it's fine.

It's not like, totally, like, really loud.

The OP is talking about WHILE GAMING! Not using youtube. Yes, then auto is fine. WHILE GAMING - NO, NOT FINE.

Now you are definitely the one looking to argue. Both of us have told you what you are saying is bad advice. Please just stop. I have an aftermarket cooled 760 and it becomes annoying at around 60%. Every single GPU I have built with, used and tested gets noticeable and loud past the 60% point. This includes a 760, R9 290, R9 270X and plenty of older cards.

If he set the fan speed to static, after he quit a game it would still sound as if it was under full load. That's not acceptable and is the entire point of what I was saying.

Yes, then you can change the fan speed to whatever is quiet and makes him happy.

However, WHILE GAMING, and that alone, the "auto" fan speed is not an acceptable means of cooling a GPU.

The OP was asking only about while gaming, not anything else - which is what I am talking about.

I'm sure he uses his PC for things other than gaming. It's a silly suggestion to change the fan speeds every time you want to do something different on your PC. This is getting ridiculous. Auto works completely fine all the time, unless the GPU has a serious problem and can't stay cool with the fans running at 100%. A solution has already been picked and I'm not wasting any more time arguing with you. You don't know what you're talking about. Nothing against you, I just know what you're saying isn't correct. Good bye sir.

It's not too difficult. It's impractical and annoying. If he really wants to change the fan speeds manually he should use a manual fan curve in something like MSI Afterburner.

Let's stop this argument before it starts. Attack the post and not the poster and remember, opinions will vary and some things cannot be proved beyond doubt. Every computer system, however identical, is different from all others from the moment it's turned on it takes on a life of its own.

Seems auto is working just fine still getting up there in the 81's but its not as bad, Never goes above 65% on auto for some reason though.

No worries! I'm just trying to help. It wouldn't be going over 65% because your card is okay running at 81C. :)
If you'd rather keep it under 80C, you can create a manual fan curve in MSI Afterburner as I mentioned before. 😀

Looking into the curve now, I know if i wasnt playing at 2560x1440 the heat wouldnt be a problem. I just would feel a lot better with a below 80. Thanks again and i really appreciate the help.
