980 Ti launch price was $650. 1080 Ti $699. 2080 Ti $1,299. Thank GOD Nvidia dealt with those scalpers... Not only is the generational leap average to less than average than before, we are also paying twice as much now compared to before their ridiculous price hikes. God Bless you Nvidia from saving us from scalpers and miners!!! PRAISE BE!

...well looking at that chart, apparently the real bad deal here is the 2070. 200$ more than it's predecessor, fewer cores than the 425$ (MSRP) 1070Ti and no NVLink support. Also there is a 75w jump in TDP over the 1070 (the 1070 came in just 5w above it's predecessor, the 4 GB 970).

So much for newer technology being more power efficient.

All the comments about pricing and how the 1080Tis are just dandy when prices on those have been ridiculous for almost their entire time while sitting at inflated prices due to the mining nonesense,,and yet the whining was never this bad when cards were being marked up by double at times,,in fact id bet alot gamers never even got a 1080ti because of pricing,,,chill out, at least these have a chance to see some lower real world pricing,,something the 1080s never did,,, mining pretty much set many gamers back a full generation and now,,,,,lol a little sticker shock has folks acting like the sky is falling,,,everyone should be used to nvidias tactics by now. Until better competition this is what we get,,,i hope all the fanboyz are happy with knowing they helped create this market that lets Nvidia put the screws to everyone,,,,,,,lol

All this hindsight referencing when in fact this is simply business as usual for Nvidia,,fan boys helped to create this market and now they want to complain,,,lol,,,how many days did the 1080 series cards see anything close to MSRP ? Right ! Until better competition this is what to expect and its actually better than the mining price hikes imo,,at least the possibility exist for some better real world pricing,,of course,,,not,,,lol,,, just wait a generation or two or dig up some of that molded money you rich boys got stashed,,,Nvidia likes this alot I imagine we are simply reaping what was sowed with this market,,,:)

PLS! Make a comparision between something affordable, for exemple GTX 1070 Ti Gaming, 8GB, 256-bit VS GeForce RTX 2070 Founders Edition.

there's already a lot of accusation out there around Nvidia hobbling previous gen cards, which fits their MO... but i'm reluctantly giving them the benefit of doubt until evidence surfaces. it's hard with this one though; given that Pascal is current-gen until RTX is on the shelves, isn't several generations old, & should be only seeing improvements in development still. absolutely inexcusable to see performance degradation with Pascal today - can't blame age for neglect here.

your comparison is cherry-picked.
GTX480 & 580 launched for $500 as flagship cards, as the full uncut versions of their arch like the 280 was.
GTX680 launched for $500 as the flagship card, while being a mid-range 104 die at that.
...3 generations of getting faster/better/more efficient, for less money. inflation-adjusted pricing actually stayed relatively flat for 20yrs ($450-700), & no measly performance gains of 30-35% like today, either. so, even using your example, $760 vs $1200 is justified by what exactly?

AMD had the better product/value from HD3000-HD6000, & the 2 companies at least traded blows for years prior, so we got some relative stability & expectations of generational value. Keplar's pure gaming FPS performance gap over GCN, coupled with AMD's CPU struggles, allowed Nvidia's marketing arm to run wild after successfully stifling HD3-6 market share. the lack of competition started over 5yrs ago & now here we are: being told a 2nd-tier 102 die is worth $1200. laughably changing "reference" to "founder's" for an instant extra $80-200 profit was another stone cast. shifting the product stack yet again too, with 2070 utilizing TU106. and the $70 NVLink that was previously included as SLI bridge, both of which now phased-out from all mid-range priced cards (where it added the most value).

that's why people are complaining. how do you not see this?

SLI optimization issues w/ certain titles is inevitable but a 1080 Ti SLI setup would potentially best a single RTX 2080 Ti in most settings. Found one example here, that is explaining & demonstrating NV-link, the succesor to SLI: https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3366-nvlink-benchmark-rtx-2080-ti-pcie-bandwidth-x16-vs-x8

Look at the graphs and you'll see the different GPU's and the 1080 Ti SLI listed :wahoo:

Same here... Staying a 1440p fer a while. Ray-tracing has no interest for me at the mo and the 2080 is not worth $799 for a few FPS gain (negated w/ my generous OC) and the 2080 Ti, def not. Replacement for the Titan/4k rez, not my setup.
