Dear community,

I've recently installed an AMD FX 6350 processor and I noticed that the clock speed randomly jumps to 4.2GHz while it should be 3.9GHz. I don't want it to overclock or anything when I don't need it to. Is it normal? If not, how can I keep it at 3.9GHz? Thermal issues might occur.

Also I'm thinking of changing the terrible stock cooler for a Scythe Kotetsu, any opinions on this specific cooler? (my region limits me to this cooler among other really bad ones)

Thanks!

I'm about to build a gamer with the FX 6350 and GTX 960 FTW. Just got the MB today. The clock speed is somewhat dynamic. It will fluctuate depending on how many 'cores' are in use and the demand. That's turbo mode kicking in. If it peaks at 4.2 as a stock CPU, consider yourself lucky. It might have been one of the better binned chips.

If you have some need for it not exceeding 3.9 GHz, you can disable Turbo Mode in BIOS.

Yes, by all means get a better cooler. The stock cooler is perfectly safe at stock speeds, but noisy when the tiny fan starts spinning at high RPM. I'm going to use a Corsair H60 AIO liq. cooler because I plan on OC'ing.
