I just started an IT position and someone just dropped another employee's laptop onto my desk, asking me to check it out. They could not give me any specifics as to what is wrong with it other than the employee it is assigned to is having trouble with it. I am currently running a System File check but other than that, anyone have any suggestions? I wanted to try a stress test for the computer thinking that my find something but I am unsure of which to try.

I would ask the employee just what kind of trouble he/she was having.
You could test for malware.
Likely, the problem is software related.
Another common problem with laptops is cooling; check the cooling openings.

As to a stress test, CPU-Z has a simple one, but I doubt that will show up anything.

"Trouble with it" can be anything, it maybe is too heavy, or image goes out, or applications crash, or battery is bad, or it's a color they don't like, or they can't reach a web site, their dog peed o it, etc... Put it aside till you get some real info.
