I am trying to run an EVGA Geoforce GTX 750 Ti on a Gateway DX4870-UB21P. I have updated the BIOS to what is available on the gateway site (version P01-A2). The machine specs say I have a PCI Express (3.0) x16 slot and the card does fit in there. There are no extra power connectors on the card that I can see.

After installing the card in the slot and powering on, I get the Gateway screen with the two options for enter BIOS (Del, and F-11). Neither works. I get two beeps spaced about twenty seconds or so apart, then eventually get a blinking cursor screen which just stays there.

I powered downed, remove the graphics card, and plugged monitor back into integrated video. Powered on, entered BIOS setup and looked for options to disable secure boot and go to legacy like some have suggested, but that is not available. I also looked for an option to select PCI video. Nada.

I also made sure the card was properly seated in the slot.

the 750 Ti says it needs a 300 watt or greater power supply. The power supply I have is a Liteon PS-8301-08A which I think is also 300W.

The mobo is an Acer

Is this graphics card not compatible with this PC? If not, what is?

Please, let me know what other information you need to help solve this problem

thanks!

I looked all over the card and I do not see a 6 pin power connector on it. The one I have is an EVGA Geoforce GTX 750 Ti which has a part number of 02G-P4-3751-KR

Where did you get the card? It could be a bad card, it could be that your PSU is weak and simply not pushing enough power to run the 750ti. All you should have to do is plug the card in, hook up the monitor to it, and power on. That should get you to Windows okay so you can then install the lastest drivers for your new GPU.

I got the card from Amazon. With the card in, I can't get past the Gateway splash screen where it gives me the options to go into BIOS and when i try to go into BIOS, such as the "DEL" key, it does nothing. Just beeps twice and then goes to the screen with the cursor blinking in the upper left hand corner and stays that way

I don't really want to spend the bucks on a PSU upgrade if that won't solve the problem.

If this card won't work for my machine the way it is, then which ones will?

I won't be using the machine for gaming, but want to make it better for using Premiere Pro and After Affects (hopefully SpeedGrade, too)

Unfortunately, no.

Is there anything else we can do?

I tried to see if what power supplies this unit can be upgraded to. but apparently the mobo has a non-standard connector?

I understand, but unfortunately I don't have that option, short of taking it to some shop and asking them to try it.

Not really limited. But I am a Chevy guy instead of a Cadillac, if you get my meaning. so don't have to have high end if cheaper can do about the same.

Thanks!

So, you really think that it is because my PSU can't handle the card is the problem, and not something I have to do in the BIOS, or something Gateway is restricting? just wondering and want to be sure since i can't get past the gateway splash with the card in, and there are not much for menu options on the BIOS.

no your psu cant handle it the 750 ti uses 60-80Watts and the rest of the system will use more power and so your PSU wont handle it

OK. Worth a try, I guess. Is there any PSU at BestBuy that could work? I have a store near me.

OK. looks like I would have to order that one.

These are available at the store. Would any of these work?

Yes but there not the best, the ones i posted are one of the best PSU's you can get and will work very very well.

OK. At this point, I just want to pick up one to test to see if this will solve the problem, and then take it back to get a better one. These are at the store, so I don't have to wait for shipping. Just want to make sure they will work before waste my time or worst, kill anything.
