I've seen that 240hz monitors provide a smoother, more enjoyable gaming and desktop experience, so i decided to buy one. when it arrived, i plugged it in and found out my pc only showed a max of 120hz. Now i'm wondering if it's a problem with the cable, a problem with the gpu or a problem with the monitor. It's a 240hz 1080p monitor from acer and a High-Speed HDMI (i assume it's 1.4)
I am by all means not an expert in the computer world and wanted to ask you guys, where you think the problem might be.

Cheers
Elias

PS: don't question my decision of buying a 240hz monitor with such an old gpu. i can easily get 300 fps in my main game, Minecraft using Lunar Client

Apparently there is a another version with 4 HDMI ports which supports 4K, not sure about the refresh rate though.

We don't know which one OP has but since he got max 120Hz on his monitor I'd say it's the edition with 1HDMI 1.4a port.

To get 240Hz isn't hard, it requires certain changes to settings within the monitor, it's not plug n play max refresh. As far as what it supports goes.

After that it's on the gpu and connections available as to what is received. You can set the monitor to support 240Hz, but Windows native is 60Hz, games pushed through a GT710 won't reach 240Hz and the GT710 itself doesn't have the port capability to allow 240Hz.

You might own a car that'll do 200mp/h, but local speed limits are 55mp/h and there's a cop on every other corner and your tires are 130mp/h speed rated. How well and how fast you can drive becomes a moot point then.

alright, seems like i have to upgrade to a newer gpu and just to be on the safe side, buy a 2.0 or 2.1 HDMI cable. thank you all for the replies
