im not really interested in this game since I dont like RTS games, but I can't deny this deal is very appealing to fans. from what Ive seen of this game, it looks very polished in this current beta stage.

but this article is pretty halfassed. shouldve at least put in a trailer to let people know what this game is like before blindly heading over to facebook.

Sorry but not going to make a facebook account for this.

Couldn't agree with you more, I hate that everybody wants to filter opportunities like this through social networking. Is not being a loyal visitor of the site not qualify me enough that I have to like it somewhere else on the web.

+1

Agree with NuclearShadow.

I don't really like the idea to give permission on my personal information for have a chance to win... a beta key.

Also "Like" a group for get a beta key... it's so wrong.

I prefer normal html page.
So I won't participate.

Better chance next time.

Hey there guys,

It's not really a matter of wanting to force our userbase into the social media realm. For the most part, it's a matter of ease of access and expeditiousness. We can get the codes to you quicker and more efficiently through this method than any other method we have (at least for the moment).

We do realize that some of you don't like Facebook and flatly refuse to engage on the platform, but we have to work with what we have available to us.

Just practice your fiction writing skills. It's not like they're going to verify the info.

Played it in Alpha.

While the concept is quite solid, for me the game feels like DoTA in a mech/tank package; the same way SWToR feels like WoW with lightsabers.

It's worth at least a try for sure. I had a lot of fun with it, but have my mind set on GW2.

What could be simpler than giving you our direct email address instead of going through some weird facebook app? Not trying to get anyones panties in a knot, but i'm tired of these "beta" tests having to all go through facebook. Not all of them, but seems to be quite a few lately.

Is it not possible to get these keys via Tomshardware? For example - you send a private message to an official from this company - and they reply back to you via PM with the code.

BTW RTS's are one of my favourite genres.

How about we just post a request on this page and you can send each person a PM with the code. That sounds easier than using Facebook.

I am much more likely to buy a game if I play the beta and like it... I am one of the ones that refuse to use FB. may have lost a sale from me.

All these gimmicks just so Facebook can datamine and sell people's information. I have no interest in this.

And people wonder why identity theft is skyrocketing.

Sure seems like it since you could easily do this through your own site.

I'm not understanding this desire to work with such a trashy company like Facebook that likes to prey on people who do not read on EULA and just click the Agree button.

We are talking about a company that made a switch in their TOS to allow them to own rights to content from even deleted accounts and had to change that when they were called out on it.

Now I know Tom's isn't the only company guilty of working with them, but all of you need to realize Facebook seems to be on the decline and more and more people seem to be waking up to what they really are. Perhaps Tom's could take the lead in getting away from the FB fad.

There's 2,000 keys, guys. Do you have any idea how long it would take to get them to you if we had to manually send them out to each interested party?

Not that long on facebook because I imagine most of us have a hatred for facebook and/or refuse to "like" things to just get a beta key or something. Unfortunately for a tech website a bad move on there part if they actually wanted to get rid of all the keys, appreciate the offer though just wrong way to go about it for your customer base.

The way most of us would have prefered I imagine would be a sign up page on Toms in which the individual key was displayed or automatically sent to us after signing up. A bit more complicated than how facebook is setup I imagine but that's what happens when your dealing your current customer base, most of us have a general hatred for a few things and facebook is one of them.

It's remotely possible, sure, but monstrously inefficient. We have 2,000 keys to give away. We can do it automatically through a Facebook tab, or allocate a number of them for the stalwart holdouts to be distributed manually via private message.

I suppose I could ask if we could set aside a dozen or two for the inevitable Facebook adverse. I can look into seeing if I can draft a mod to help out with this effort, if it's possible.

As an aside, you guys should know that we aren't mining your personal data through Facebook. We aren't teamed up with Facebook, or in cahoots with them to sell your grocery shopping habits to Belgian root beer manufacturers. It's an efficiency thing.

I wonder if people realize that giveaways are 99% of the time done for advertising. Im surprised theres so many people complaining about a giveaway. is it so hard to make a bogus account and use it only for all these giveaways? theyre not going to farm you for info. theyre just going to use an efficient system to send out all the beta keys. so much complaining coming from the commenters here...
