[citation][nom]dhowie[/nom]these drives are fairly impressive, there are benchmarks.http://anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3667while they arent as great in certain task as others (this is the case with all ssd) they shine for how much you spend on them.[/citation]
Yeah, saw that earlier today. Looks pretty good, considering it passes the Intel G1 SSDs in most benches.

For just an OS and few programs, or even some low key business use, like photoshop or other productivity apps, this little ssd would shine. Nice move kingston :)

I wonder if this will then destroy the upcoming entry level ssd by intel, it shooting for the same audience but i wonder how it will fare considering the kingston does so well compared to the drives already out, and the intel drive will be a trimmed down, capped speed ssd.

Oh snap, looks like I need to add two of these (RAID 0) to my list of stuff to buy with tax return $$.

So far its a Q9550, antec nine hundred two case, and a zalmann 9900, and two of these bad boys.

Now this is a SSD that I can get excited about! Assuming it still outperforms the OCZ vertex's, I will definitely be getting one of these

This is exactly what I'm looking for!
How are the IOPS compared to an Intel drive?
Do they have a good controller?

realistically with this you are paying 85 bucks for a faster boot time. My windows 7 build takes a little less than 20 gigs right off the bat which limits the amount of programs you could install if this was your system drive. From a gamers perspective this hdd is pointless, especially since my system is on almost 24/7, I would barely ever see the performance gains.

Too small for boot, programs and games. I think a 256GB is perfect for now but the price is way to high..... they should make SSd prices cheaper in order to market the product... I guess companies are still trying to squeeze out the standard HDDs and extend their life spans unit they can perminently become secondary drives and as storage instead of boot drives/master.....

I hope next year will bring prices of SSds down! I would get a 256GB for $200... hell if they made them $180 thatd be perfect...

You should add a little something Marcus...

It uses 5 channel memory instead of 10 channel (as the G2 X25-M's use), giving a little better than half the performance...

Boot drive for a desktop, or main drive for a extremely lightly used notebook only.

@smlong

These drives don't vibrate, skip the mounting kit, 2 screws should be fine. Or maybe velcro. But agree that case manufacturers should start including 2.5" bays.

I dont boot that often. My PC is mostly on standby, so I can resume in 2-3 seconds :)

do you think they will sell an IDE version os these... my notebook only had IDE and the only bottlenec in it is really the hard drive.

Its a SSD price point when I really start to think about it
But 40 Gbs may still be to little for my needs (video, 3D and design) I don't want to install an OS and all applications I use to see the drive fill at a very fast pace with temporary files and to close to its limits. So I need to calculate how much I really need. I may not be able to use a portion as a scratch disk, so the benefits are there but the drive may be to short to early for me.

On the other hand I could always wait 6 moths and see the prices go down and the capacities go up.

Looks to me like the price/gb isn't really all that much better than most other SSD's out there, including intel's g2's. The advantage here is that they're selling it in a 40gb version which is perfect for a boot drive for non gamers.

For a gamer, on the other hand, i'd really need a minimum of 128gb, preferrably 256gb so that i could keep various games installed. With MMO's coming out at 15-20gb installs, and regular single player games in the range of 5-10gb per, 40gb is borderline useless to a gamer, well, rather a gamer who isnt patient enough to constantly uninstall/install games every time he wants to play.

Im about a nanometer away from buying one, I barely use windows 7 and would most likely keep it installed on my 150gb raptor just for the sake of space (I don't even use all of the 150gb anyway as it is with 2 installs of Arch and one of windows 7!). My main OS is Arch Linux so 40gb is more than enough for me as a boot drive. I also have 2x500GB WD drives so Im set with storage!

Does this drive use the same controller as Intel's? An Intel branded 34nm MLC flash chip performs just as good as an Acme brand 34nm MLC flash chip.

nice prediction. almost.

newegg are selling for 129.99, with a 20$ rebate- 109.99.
25$ more then stated.

in my opinion, it's still worth it.
