Hi, I have:

I5 2400
8 ram 1600mhz downgraded to 1333mhz
Gtx 1050 2gb
350 dell psu

I'm thinking to improve by 16 ram, get a gtx 1060 or rx 580, and get a 500 psu, do you think it will work?

What components do you think should I get to improve the pc?

Thanks

I wouldn't get 16gb's ram... you really don't need it! You should upgrade your PSU, perhaps with something like the EVGA 500b, or something like that (remember only buy powers supplies from proper brands, not logisys or anyone else like that.) This: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/ is always a good thing to check.
Once you upgrade your power supply to something decent, maybe look to upgrading your CPU/motherboard and RAM, cause your's are ageing components. It will cost quite a bit, but it is quite vital. something like a new i5, or a ryzen 5 chip, would be advisable. After that getting an Rx 580/480 (almost no diff. in performance between the two) or a gtx 1060 may be in order. Mostly which you should...
You actually may need to get a new motherboard. Those Sandy Bridge are starting to show its age. I do believe you should grab a Skylake/Kaby Lake build. If you plan on playing simple games, a beefy GPU isn't need. Even with GTA5, an i3 would be just fine. Of course you can't do high graphics, but if simple 1080p is what you want, it is recommended.

That's just my three cents.

Mostly which you should get depends on which games you play, but they perform almost the same regardless.
