Get the GTX 980 now, or wait for the 8GB version?

I will likely be playing at 1080P for the forseeable future, and my current GPU is the Sapphire 7870 that I've been using for a little over two years now. Will the extra vram be of benefit in upcoming games like The Witcher 3? Even at 1080P?

8GB will only be necessary for 4k gaming. 4GB is still enough for 1080P, just get the gtx 980 now.

At 1080p the most vram you'll use is about 2GB.

980 is ABSOLUTE overkill for 1080p
Get the 980, enjoy it, love it and hug it.
4GB is the sweet spot of VRAM at the moment, probably for the next year at least.
Not sure of release date of a 8gb 980.
Ive heard the 980ti wont see release till 2016 earliest.
