Getting a smaller case

I have been looking recently at some of the micro ATX cases and I want to know if will run as efficiently and safely as my mid tower. I want the smaller case because my desk is currently a bit cramped.

There should be no performance difference or safety difference between a small case and a large case... as long as you can keep the components cool.
