Is there something that could cause artifacts in most games that isnt related to the graphics card aging? i'd prefer not to have to buy a new one right now. mostly im getting random textures appearing like in this image: http://www3.picturepush.com/photo/a/6373076/img/6373076.png.

Solution

Sadly no. not many fixes have been found to fix this issue.

BUT, if you can try to lower your GPUs clock rate, or if possible try to use another GPU if you have one, but most artifacting is graphics related so i doubt its any of your other hardware causing this.

If none of this helps you may have one last resort, and that literally is putting your GPU in the oven.......
i will link you to a tutorial.

Solution
I've had the same problem with my r9 280x 3gb OC from sapphire all I did to fix it was to downclock a bit and the artifacts disappeared, almost. I would get them rarely, like once a month. Restarting the game would fix it for me.
