Hi All,

I am not sure where to post this, I have a Asus Prime Z270-A desktop that's about 3 years old, and as of late, I am getting the Windows 10 'blue screen PC ran into a problem' more often than not. I notice it occurring when I transfer too much files between my phone and PC, or when I am watching media player on one screen and have a trading platform open in another, or while downloading. Often times, it happens back to back after a reboot of itself. To say the least, it will pop up at least "once" a day, if not more.

I don't know if this is related to the display driver or bad memory? I did a disk drive scan for errors in Windows, but didn't find anything. I don't have a graphics card and use on-board. A few months ago, my HDMI port couldn't detect, so I got one of those DVI to HDMI adapter thing in the other port. I don't know if this is a sign of the board itself going bad or the display having issues.

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB
Main: SSD 850 EVO
Slave: Western Digital HDD

Can someone suggest what might be going on? Should I just go ahead and replace the Mobo, or replace the memory, or is the SSD going bad? I thought these things last long? I would like to reuse everything where possible.

For the time being, I am backing up all my files into a portable HD.

Getting BSOD During install is telling us its hardware, not software, causing the errors. As usual I have concentrated on software but it seems pretty clear

Try running memtest86 on each of your ram sticks, one stick at a time, up to 4 passes. Only error count you want is 0, any higher could be cause of the BSOD. Remove/replace ram sticks with errors. Memtest is created as a bootable USB so that you don’t need windows to run it

if ram is bad, it can make perfectly good drivers look bad. We been chasing something like that. Ram is a common reason for BSOD during install.

Main: SSD 850 EVO
Slave: Western Digital HDD

You don't have slave drives anymore, they stopped that when we swapped to sata 15 years ago, thats...
I ran the dump file through the debugger and got the following information: https://unseededquetzal.htmlpasta.com/
Alternate in case htmlpasta quits again: https://pastebin.com/5s5Qx6R2

File information:042520-5875-01.dmp (Apr 26 2020 - 03:51:48)
Bugcheck:SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007E)
Probably caused by:ntkrnlmp.exe (Process: System)
Uptime:0 Day(s), 1 Hour(s), 02 Min(s), and 06 Sec(s)

This information can be used by others to help you. I can't help you with this. Someone else will post with more information. Please wait for additional answers. Good luck.

i don't think its anything to do with sata

these are drivers running during error
Aug 22 2012 AsIO.sys ASUS Input Output driver http://www.asus.com/
Sep 06 2016 bcmpciedhd63.sys Broadcom WIFI driver
Oct 04 2016 IntcDAud.sys Intel Display Audio Driver http://www.intel.com/
Oct 17 2017 RTKVHD64.sys Realtek Audio System driver https://www.realtek.com/en/
Apr 11 2018 TeeDriverW8x64.sys Intel Management Engine Interface driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/
May 31 2018 tapnordvpn.sys Nord VPN TAP driver https://nordvpn.com
Jun 11 2018 e1i65x64.sys Intel(R) Gigabit Adapter driver
Sep 25 2019 igdkmd64.sys Intel HD graphics driver
Dec 09 2019 iaStorAC.sys Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver
Apr 02 2020 nlwt.sys

the last one is the one I am trying to figure out. I sort of need to know what it does. just to know if its possible problem or just a new driver. Mysteries where I can only find 1 example of a file make me question it. 1 example being this one.

Didn't find any new WiFi drivers, but re-installed per Asus site.
what wifi device have you got? motherboard doesn't have wifi?

One way we can try to get windows to tell us the cause is run driver verifer. It is built into windows and its purpose is to test drivers. If it didn't also have a habit of putting people into boot loops, I would suggest it more often. As such, if you do run it, take the precautions I suggest in this post - see post 2: https://forums.tomshardware.com/thr...nclude-in-blue-screen-of-death-posts.3468965/

I have Asus PCE-AC88 802.11ac wireless card.

I've tried repairing and uninstall the SATA driver today and midway, the BSOD came on. Now the SATA install programs is creating error due to premature ending. Now, all the SATA driver programs won't run properly (from Asus website / Intel website), neither of them will repair/uninstall. Is there any fix for this as I hope this doesn't make things worst.

AsIO.sys seems to be the oldest driver and related to the HDMI port being bad?

I feel uneasy running the driver verifyer.

Thanks for following up.

Did you make the DVD? If you didn't make it, I would download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB as that will be the latest version of win 10 and save time getting updates. May help to do this on another PC.

If windows still works, we can boot off the installer in windows (sort of).
from desktop, go to settings/update & security/recovery
Under advanced startup, click restart now
this restarts PC in a blue menu
Put USB or DVD into PC
choose Use a device
the USB or DVD should be listed here, select them and PC should boot from it.

boot from installer

follow this guide: https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq/how-to-do-a-clean-installation-of-windows-10.3170366/

no need to format before hand as it is part of a custom install.

I just attempted to reinstall completely from C. It took a few tries during the process as I got the BSOD. I eventually got through, but Windows doesn't detect my slave drive. I see it in device manager, but not in the My Computer.

But even after a complete reinstall of Windows / Format of C, I still am getting BSOD!

How can I actually reformat master and slave, and have Windows detect my slave?

I think this may actually be memory related or hardware issue?

Thanks

You don't have slave drives anymore, they stopped that when we swapped to sata 15 years ago, thats an IDE term. I remember the toggle switch on drives.

Does D drive appear in disk management?
right click start
choose disk management
expand window and take screenshot, upload to an image sharing website and show here.
is D on this screen?
Does D show as storage in bios?

did you do this first?
you might want to disconnect its data cable when you install onto C and attach itr once windows works again on C.
cause that would explain why its not showing :)

I see, thank you. Yeah, i see the drive in bios and have just got it to show up again. I did the simple volume thingy and reformated. But yeah, I am thinking this is hardware related. Thanks for your continued help.

I'm thinking it's bad ram, but I thought corsair was a good brand.

they are a good brand but sticks are produced in such high numbers that they can't all be good. I haven't had any problems with corsair ram before. It happens, if you get any errors on Memtest, ram makers will accept a memtest fail as enough proof ram is dead and replace it for you.

Run memtest and see if you have bad ram. Only error count you want is 0. Any higher is too many.
