getting destination net unreachable as reply, why?

I'm getting 'Destination net unreachable' as reply when pinging the dns and not being able to access the net. why? need help. my anti virus firewall is showing 'blocked duplicate ip' at the same time. Now if I ping the gateway, it's replying normally and surprisingly 'm still sending and receiving data. I've even changed the LAN card but still, no change to the situation. what to do?

Probably because you have a "duplicate IP". Change your IP address and try again.

But how? I have a static ip, how can I change it??

you are pinging from a PC/laptop that receives DHCP correct? maybe he means to change the ip on that computer.
manual configure DHCP on that computer and the DNS. the DNS is probably not correct...

actually, DHCP is not enabled on my pc. and it's a cable internet connection, directly on the Ethernet port. Is there any way that Eset firewall is doing something like blocking the connection? I've turned the Eset firewall off for quite some time n using PCTools firewall, and the problem didn't arise since.

i am not too sure of ESET; however, it does sound like a third party firewall that came with your PC when you purchased it<?>. Firewalls tend to block DNS servers for security, so in that case, that might have been the problem...

I changed the antivirus, now using a free firewall. problem looks to be solved. thanks anyways.
