Question Getting errors with new external HDD, stuck on "calculating" during data transfer ?

Backing up my data to transfer it to a new computer, transferred about 50 Gbs with no issue, then
suddenly the transfer gets stuck on "calculating" and doesn't move. I restart the computer, update drivers etc but it happens again and again.
Drive in question is a no name Chinese product, cheap and 2 TB. I've bought and used several external HDDs before and never encountered anything like this.
I Googled but got a whole host of possible errors. It should be an open and shut procedure, I mean, it's just copying files right?

I'm running chkdsk now but it's super slow.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Should I just buy from Bestbuy then? Or do you have any recommendations?

I can actually write to it and read data from it.
Yes, you may be able to read/write a little bit of data to it.
But it is junk....not 2TB.
I wouldn't trust it with a single 1k text file.

A real 2TB SSD will cost close to $200.
A 2TB external HDD from Seagate or WD will be around $60 at Amazon.
