Getting into safe mode on Windows 10

Hey,
So my friend's computer cannot actually boot - it gets some error to do with AVG and cannot therefore actually let us log into Windows 10. Unfortunately, Microsoft apparently disabled getting into safe mode with F8 so I really don't know what to do. When she presses F8 or shift and F8 when it's booting, it just launches normally and gets the error and then whitescreens. She also doesn't have a recovery drive or a windows 10 disk so does anyone have a way to get into safe mode (preferably with networking)???

If the system does not redirect yo to the recovery environment then you will have to create a recovery USB from another Win 10 computer to then restart it.

The problem is that with UEFI bios and SSDs there is no time for you to press F8.

Oh well there is an option in the Bios that allows us to do a legacy boot or something so wouldn't there be something to do with that?

I believe once you install windows for UEFI bios it will only boot in UEFI mode.

So how do I know if it was installed into UEFI mode? She installed Windows 10 trough the internet.

You can check the bios to see thats fine, you just wont boot if it is already in UEFI mode and you then change it to legacy.

If she upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 then it is likely in legacy, if it was win 8/8.1 then likely in UEFI

Okay thanks, so we just booted it into the UEFI mode using a tutorial and it said that there was something like no boot drive found. Does this mean that it was definitely installed onto the legacy part?

Correct.

If the machine has an SSD then it can still boot too fast to register the F8 keypress.

Okay thanks, she doesn't have an SSD so should this mean that she can boot into safe mode somehow?

Should be able to, as soon as your bios screen dissapears then start hitting f8 or shift+f8 repeatedly.

She has tried that loads of times but nothing is happening!

Then you will have to create the recovery media from a different win 10 computer.

Then from the recovery media you can get it to boot to recovery mode and from there select safe mode.

Microsoft has made it very asinine.
