Hello, I've realized recently that I'm getting less fps than I think I should be in Valorant with my current setup. The fps hovers around 140 and can stutter down below 100 at times, which really shouldn't be happening with such an easy to run game. I've run UserBenchmark and I'll link it here to see if anyone has any ideas as to why im getting low fps. Thanks. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/48736434

Would upgrading to a 5800x show big changes to fps in a game like valorant?

Hey there,

Do you have XMP running on your ram? What speed is it running at?
I don't believe I do, looking at my task manager it says it is running at 2133MHz

Update: I went into bios and turned on XMP to 2400MHz, there may have been a slight improvement but not very noticeable if any.

1)Flagged for cpu background at 17%.
Ideally should be at 10% or less. Perhaps you forgot to close the browser before running the benchmark, or something else was going on?

2)The benchmark did not finish, noted by those incompletes in red at the top of the page.
It appears the SSD failed its portion of the test, so the whole run was written off as incomplete. It's also a bit too full, at around 85%, give or take; capacities aren't exactly as advertised, usually less, so it's probably closer to 90% full.

3)Ryzen prefers faster ram. 2933-3200mhz for the Zen+ cpu in there right now.
The later Ryzens prefer even faster, such as 3600mhz kits.

1.) I reran the test multiple times making sure the browser was closed, there may've been something else running in the background.

2.) Every time I run the test it doesn't finish, I'm guessing this is because there isn't enough storage on the SSD, but I don't think that's whats limiting fps anyway.

3.) Would it be better to get better RAM before looking to upgrade my cpu?

Well, if you're sure the SSD isn't contributing here...
Background activity, ram and cpu(which is affected by the ram) are all culprits then.

No. The cpu should still be a bigger change over the ram.
I reran the test again after making sure all background processes were off and clearing some space from my drive.

Not sure why the test still isn't finishing.

I think for the time being I'm going to upgrade the cpu and see if I get any noticeable results, thanks for the help!

I wouldn't go replacing anything until you figure out why your SSD is not allowing the test to complete. It could be because it's close to full, but it's odd it doesn't finish. Even if it was pretty full it would just slow down.

Whilst a CPU upgrade could certainly help in terms of overall performance, the 2700x is still a very strong CPU. If changing anything to benefit FPS, you could argue CPU/Ram/GPU upgrades. With a GPU upgrade giving the biggest boost in FPS. (typically)

As @Phaaze88 mentioned, Ryzen loves fast ram. The different between 2400mhz and 3200mhz is typically between 15-20% increase in performance. That's huge. CPU might possibly push 15-20% if you moved to a 5600/5800 etc.

But without getting a true idea of where your issue really lies, maybe more diagnosis is needed instead of just shelling out cash right now.

Okay, I'll hold off on the cpu for now, probably to just try better RAM for the time being and see if that fixes it before spending the money for a processor. What RAM should I go with? Looking at reviews of high speed RAM I'm seeing a lot of complaints.

Will 3600mhz run on a B350? I'm not so sure. Worth a punt if you knew it would work. Hence just the 3200mhz I quoted. CL14 is definitely an option.
Ohh, yeah that is true. Those boards topped out at 3600 on some boards I think. This is what MSI's website shows for that specific motherboard "1866/ 2133/ 2400/ 2667(OC)/ 2933(OC)/ 3200(OC)+ Mhz." So possible but i would not hold my breath. I would definitely snag the 3200 cl14 ram then.

I ended up grabbing the 3600 corsair vengeance, the system doesn;t seem to be stable while I had it set at 3600, it kept randomly crashing, but I did get it to boot. I went into BIOS and set the speed to 3200 and the system seems to be stable now and I do see some improvement in fps so that's really nice. Thanks everyone :)
