Hi Kelly,
Reset the toolbar setting from Registry using this fix:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_toolbarfix.htm
Download the above fix and unzip it in the Desktop.
Close all instances of Internet Explorer
Run the .exe file which you just extracted
Select "Repair Internet Explorer toolbars" and click Repair button.
Open Internet Explorer.
FYI, the side Search bar status is also stored in the ITBarLayout registry value, where the Toolbar positions are also stored. If that does not help, run a scan using Ad-aware.
