Question Getting this blue screen error "Critical failure" randomly

I don't know why this happens randomly. First when it happened, I did sfc/scannow and chkdsk as admin from CMD but that didn't fix it because the error still came. Then I reinstalled windows 10 and even after that while that error didn't exactly come, it was loaded with a black screen(which I fixed by using task manager) but now after just removing the mic before booting it up that blue screen error still shows up...

I don't know where the issue lies and I fixed the drive issues using chkdsk now. Any ideas how to examine this issue?

CPU: Intel Core i7 7700@ 3.60GHz
Kaby Lake 14nm Technology
Ram 16.0 GB Dual-Channel @ 1063MHz

Motherboard: Supermicro C7H270-CG-ML(CPU)

Drive on C: is Kingston A2000 1TB. other drives are Samsung 870 Evo which I use for other things.

Can you follow option one on the following link - here - and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD - that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD

1. Open Windows File Explore
   
2. Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
   
3. Copy the mini-dump files out onto your Desktop
   
4. Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows
   
5. Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder
   
6. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
   
7. Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .

Magician at least has diagnostics, Kingston software just checks what drive tells it.

I have set it as small mini dump. I will let you know when the next BSOD occurs and keep this in mind since it is random...

Kingston drive says healthy with only 99% wear indicator. Samsung also says the 870 Evo drive is fine with the scan.

I don't have the latest BIOS updated at all

Ok. In the meanwhile, I have enabled fast startup since logically the error is only triggered if the system is fully shutdown and fast startup doesn't fully shutdown the system.

Waiting for response and seeing if even with fast startup enabled, the issue persists...

hmm, it happened in service host. Shame there are about 70 of those on windows and I think you need to use the kernel dumps to figure those out.

I know you run sfc but lets try again

right click start button

choose powershell (admin)

copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow

and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files

SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

Ok so should I turn off fast startup? I'm scared of updating the bios but...are you sure that's a good idea?

Is it ideal to test with kernel dump instead? What is the name of the dump?

I didn't notice they both happened within 14 seconds of startup.

Does it happen in safe mode?

1. go to settings/update & security/recovery
   
2. under advanced startup, click restart now button
   
3. this restarts PC in a blue menu
   
4. choose troubleshoot
   
5. choose advanced
   
6. choose startup options
   
7. click the restart button
   
8. choose a safe mode (it doesn't matter which) by using number associated with it.
   
9. Pc will restart and load safe mode
   

Um, don't update bios yet, Only update if you sure you won't lose power. Most of the time BIOS updates are fine.
I think I have to do one myself, I get the reluctance.

How do I boot it up in safe mode without restarting it into safe mode? Because powering it on is where it tends to show bsod...

I...I don't want to update the bios firmware. I don't mind checking out the kernal dump. I'm too scared to update the bios...

I tried in safe mode and it is booting in it just fine...

I think I feel that fast startup is safe right now...if it even happens with this startup...maybe I will think of updating my bios.

I haven't updated my bios in like seven years.

safe mode could mean its a driver to blame
its also less stressing on hardware

You don't need/want the western digital driver since you don't have any WD drives.

sound drivers are old but can be a pain to find newer ones. newest on SM site are from 2017.

Yeah it just started recently. So far haven't gotten any errors. I am trying SFC in powershell now.

Reading the manual for updating the BIOS gave me lots of shivers that I'm honestly better off waiting till I get my PC upgrade at this rate.

You don't need/want the western digital driver since you don't have any WD drives.

I have a WD external drive. I just unplugged it after I unplugged my mic to see if the external drives were the issue. Still having it as an issue.

Is it fine to use Autorun? I tried using it once before I got my first BSOD from startup because for some reason, the RTXvoice app pops up and the screen went black. I figured that was the cause and I disabled RTXvoice it from Autorun. But after a while that is when the BSOD started showing up..one time it was almost scary as in the screen was flickering constantly and that is when I reinstalled Windows again.

Doesn't seem to be happening to that extent right now though.

EDIT: I used Task Scheduler to disable RTXVoice as startup instead if that helps.

It should be fine to use it as its from Microsoft. For most part their programs don't break windows.

What GPU do you have? its not in your listing (i don't suspect it, you just didn't mention it). 30 series card?

note: sometimes booting into safe mode can fix windows.

I just have Zotac GTX 1050TI Mini

this looks like another case where a service host was running then terminate process was called. When we got the kernel dump it was windows defender that terminated the process because the client did not have proper rights to run the process. problem was the process was required and the terminate process caused the bugcheck.

I wasn't aware defender would keep running even if you use another AV.

Its normally drivers older than 2015, you don't have any. Oldest is the driver for your external drive.
It could be any of the remainder as it might be misbehaving at boot.
If you boot off SSD, you don't need it anyway.
