Justifying the added expense for a slightly higher overclock is also not going to be easy.
Justifying price for the best? You must be new to capitalism...

But in all seriousness, the most extreme PC Hardware (or in any market really) is always going to have a hefty price tag because at that point, it's not about being practical, it's about bragging rights, being the envy of common folk, status, and having the absolute best and fastest the market has to offer. For those certain kinds of people who have the money to spare, that's justification enough, even if it is just a few megahertz.

The article reads like an advert.

"Speaking of things you won't need, the ACX 2.0 cooler on the card is one beast of a GPU cooler....."

Now I'm not denying EVGA makes great cards (they do) but given you haven't reviewed the Kingpin 980 that's quite an assumption on you part.

Seven hundred AND fifty dollars. Wow, that's a lot of money for a single GPU. Could buy GTX 970 SLI instead. But then, this card is not for gamers, but it's for overclockers. That's a hobby you have to pay for, it seems.

Meh. This over priced, over sized card will be yesterday's news by the time it is available for sale. And it only has 4GB of DDR5 memory? So much for being anything close to uber.

I think I will wait , I find it very hard to justify the cost or performance benefit over the 780ti which has almost 800 more cuda cores as well has a far higher memory bandwidth . As far as I'm concerned the whole 900 series is a scam. OH thanks for taking all the 700 series off the market to shove this thing out on the market . I really appreciate that.

not only removed from the market but also fron the company web site like I went to look that up at evga to compare some things and this is what evga has for there 780-770 cards now

how sad is that ??

remember ---

Furthermore, as we mentioned in our GTX 980 review, GTX 970 has been a pure virtual (no reference card) launch, which means all of NVIDIA’s partners are launching their custom cards right out of the gate. A lot of these have been recycled or otherwise only slightly modified GTX 700/600 series designs, owing to the fact that GM204’s memory bus has been held at 256-bits and its power requirements are so low.

I like how when it comes out.. it's basically $800 right away *suppose to be $750*. People that buy these are gonna be upset when 980 Ti comes out for $750ish in few months.
For $800 you can get two brand new GTX 970's or 290X's and still have $140 in your pocket.
What a ripoff...

Pff Bullshit, I did never own a graphics card from EVGA before, was never registered on their web page and could easily order 2 Kingpins from caseking. BTW. the price is 839 Euro which is about 940 dollars per card. Got the package today an will try them out this evening.

For the "you can buy two 970" crowd... A single 980 at the overclock this and the Matrix can achieve crushes 970 SLI. Go look it up on hwbot or futuremark. 30k graphics score in FS using 1 top tier 980 on watercooling not extreme cooling.
