Hi

I never had this problem for over a year now but ever since i got this new SSHD harddrive iv been experiencing these problems.

Every time i'm playing fifa 15 and normally at the end of the match when they show the 3D replays, then my PSU or GX card makes this buzzing/screeching sound and im getting this plastic smell coming out of my pc.

I checked on OC GURU my gfx card stats and i noticed the power consumption goes to over 80% so i'm assuming the gfx card is over heating my PSU or something. cause the PSU is very hot and leaves a plastic smell, not burnt smell but its just not a normal smell. I had this problem once a few months ago but all i did was swap power cables of the PSU and that seemed to work, but now i have tried 3 power cables and no help difference. My Gfx card temp stays below 50C so thats not a problem, im just worried about what might happen and also the sound gets very annoying and louder as i play longer.

I dont know what to do anymore, i have tried reinstalling my gfx card ect.

Specs: i7 cpu
Geforce GTX 660Ti
550W Huntkey PSU

P. S - Thank God for this site, as it helped me fix most problems in the past, hope we can sort this one out.

Thanks

The HuntKey Green Power LW-6550HG is not a 550 Watt power supply unit. It is rated at 450 Watts continuous with a 550 Watt peak rating. Any company selling a 550 Watt peak power rated power supply as a 550 Watt power supply is preying on the ignorant. That power supply isn't even capable of supplying 550 Watts without blowing up as Hardware Secrets found out during their review.

An SSHD only draws 7.5 Watts.

Test with a better quality power supply unit.

What are you using to monitor the power consumption of the graphics card?

What is the GPU processing load during the "80% power draw"?

I don't know if your graphics card is faulty or not. It's not in my possession so that I can test it. How do you know it's not a problem with the game itself or even the graphics card driver?

For one thing, I definitely wouldn't trust that PSU. That PSU puts out high levels of electrical noise and ripple as power draw increases. If the noise and ripple exceed what is allowed by ATX12V Power Supply Design Specs then the system will experience instability. That PSU does exceed the allowed noise and ripple before it reaches its claimed maximum continuous power rating. That's why I said you need to test your system with a better quality PSU.

I'm monitoring with oc guru. Can't b game cause iv been playing it for months, also the driver up to date. With vsync off it gets worse and louder, it's super annoying now

Regardless of what the problem may or may not be, that PSU needs replacing either way so my advice would be to start with that and see if it solves the problem. If not, you can rule that out and move on to the graphics card. You can pick up bronze certified reliable power supplies relatively cheap.
