Question Gigabit internet stuck at 110 MB?

Could anyone explain to me why a gigabit connection only yields a real-world download speed of ~110 megabytes? I confirmed via wired connection at the modem that I'm on a 1 gigabit connection, but using online speed testers at the same setup shows my download speed maxes out at 111 MB or so. Am I mistaken in thinking that one gigabit is equivalent to 125 megabytes? I want to make sure I'm not missing out on those few potential megabytes, even if it's a small difference. :3 Thanks!

1 gigabit = 1000/8 = 125 megabytes

When you account for transport overhead, you'll get transfer rates closer to 105 - 115 megabytes/s.
If storage device imposes additional transfer speed limitations, then you'll get even less transfer speed.
