Gigabit laptop only gets to 100Mbps

Hey,
I own an ASUS N551JK-CN103D Notebook and I just realised when downloading stuff that my Ethernet conection only gets up to 100Mbps. I checked the Asus web page and it says that my laptop has 10/100/1000/Gigabits Base T Ethernet Adapter. Also, my internet connection is Gigabit. What should I do?

you have to have the right ethernet cable and router to get that speed. also make sure you have the newest driver for the ethernet port.

Are you mixing up your bits and bytes?

Apologies if you know all this:

1Gb (the b being a B or b is important - b for bit, B for byte) is ~ speaking 100MB

Or to translate 1 Gigabit is roughly comparable to 100 Megabytes

A 1Gb wired link maxes out at just over 100MB/s

Also where are you 'downloading stuff' from? If it's the internet, you will be limited by your internet connection speed.

As long as you write the downloaded data to a hdd, the download rate will be limited to that, because the laptop can not write the data faster. And you need a server, that delivers tha data fast enough and only very few sites do that.

I dont think that the cable and router are the problem. The thing is that I've just reinstalled windows on this PC and now im not getting the same speeds. I was getting about 800 Download before, and now, its stuck around 98. Also, in the Task Manager, when an app is using 90 Mbps, network usage is around 97%.

Im using a Samsung Evo 850 SSD, disk usage is at about 20%

Just double checked and unfortunately this is not the case. All the values are in Mbps not MB/s

Tried testing on speedtest.net, not sure whats their upload cap, but im positive its over 100Mbps
