I have a Biostar TA990FXE Ver 5.0 motherboard. Ive used a Sapphire r9 270x with it for a few years, but the 270x is finally dying.
Enter the new Gigabyte 1660 TI Auros edition gpu. Hooking this GPU up generates a "b2 error" code on the motherboard and at the splash screen. The splash screen hangs substantially longer than it did with no error message, but it will eventually go passed it. Then I just get a black screen. No cursor, no blinking white line, just black. Also, the machine will NOT go into the bios with the 1660 TI plugged in. It will with the 270x.
Now, the manual for this mobo does not list a b2 error (unless I missed it of course). So I am not sure what the issue is. I have reset the BIOS several times and tried everything I can come up with to no avail. I updated the BIOS to the newest available (2014). No change.
If I plug my 270x back in, it fires right up! Right into windows within 30 seconds.
I am a computer technician by trade for the last 10 years. I'm thinking the card is incompatible with my motherboard, or there is a setting I need to turn on in the bios but I cannot find it.
Here are the rest of my specs in case it's something else causing the issue:
AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz (No overlock)
12GB G.Skill DDR3-2133 (No OC)
120GB Kingston SSD SA400S37120G
WD 640GB HDD
Biostar TA990FXE Ver 5.0 (Bios Ver: 99FAD807.BST)
Azza Case
600W Thermaltake PSU
Windows 10 Pro Build: 1809
