Hi All,

Hoping you can shed some light on an issue im having.

Last night i put together a system, 970a ud3p 1.0 board with and FX8320 using balistix sport 1600 ddr3 ram.

I've currently got a stable installation of windows running however i cannot get the system to boot using 16gb of ram (4 x 4gb dimms)

If i install 2 sticks, it boots up okay. but with 16gb in and all slots used it wont boot past the windows screen.

The bios version according to EasyTune is "FA" and its version 2.7.. I thought the board would be running "F1"

I can see other people have had similar issues before but i cannot get it to boot 🙁

It is probably Ram stick problem. Try booting with only one stick at the time. until you find the malfunctionning one.

If it boot but you get BSOD after some time download and run memtest86.

Contact balistix for RMA. Gskills helped me trying configuring my motherboard when i had problem, but in the end it was only one of their stick the problem.

It doesn't matter, the motherboard has 2 channel so 8 Gb is on one, 8Gb on the other and they will run in dual channel. My motherboard doens't support quad channel, but it did not prevent me from installing a quad channel kit.

thing is i took these from my previous build which ran fine for the last few weeks without issue. (only installed them a few weeks ago) that was an old board and it took them fine.. using a phenom ii x4 970.. i would have thought the FX series would be able to handle what the phenom series would?

@gingerbread: surely i can run 4 x 4gb sticks? 16gb would be better than 8 gb in dual channel?

Justin I have read that thread and enable XMP but not gone much further than that...

Something isnt right at all. I have been getting random crashes/reboots every now and then :/

wow, thats good to know dudeman509.

I'm running prime95 at the moment to test the system as it only went together at 3/4am this morning. almost an hour at 100% CPU/RAM and it hasnt crashed yet so i think it might have been EasyTune6 or whatever it was crashing.. Time will tell

I have some crucial basics 1600 ddr3 so i will test those but if others are running the same set up then as pierre syas its possibly a dodgy stick ::/

Awesome. I'm using the 212 Evo as well with 2 intake and 2 exhaust fans.

1.5 hours at 100% and counting and its not broken 118F yet but that's stock. Looks like it was definitely EasyShit that was crashing out.

a little update. tracked the crashes down to Easy Tune AND a Chrome install that would just freeze the PC completely. Seemed weird as i ran OCCT and Prime95 at the same time for around 4 hours with no issues.

Ideally i want to get 16gb running if i can (because i paid for it -_-). What do i need to change to in terms of "memory timings" to get these 4 sticks to run?

! got the 16gb running by changing to multiplier to 6.66 rather than the 8 it was at so its now running but it fails pass 2 or 3 in prime 95 🙁 pc just black screens and reboots..

Tried changing the channel timing down to 10 10 10 24l27 but the same thing happens

The voltage is 1.5 and the sticks state that too. Is it worth bumping that up: what else can I try?

Hi Matt,

Its matching as in its the same brand/model however it came as 2 x 4gb kits. fwiw i put in an old set of 1333 ddr3 basic crucial sticks and it booted right up (2 x 2gb). ran prime for an hour with no errors.. then just to see if i made a diff i set the multiplier down to 6.6 and put in a single stick on the 1600 ram.. no issues at all with prime after an hour.. change the multiplier back and tested... no issues again

So now im running 12gb @ 1600 instead of the 16 i wanted. either the board doesn't like it or that 1 other stick ist le dodge. I think i'l leave it at that as with the OC to 4.0 on the 8320 its all relatively stable.

stable in as far as the ram/cpu goes. lol just ran heaven 4.0 on my MSI gtx 750 and it hit 100%, stuttered then promptly rebooted
