Hello,

I have a GA-7VRXP rev 1.1 and an Athlon XP 2700+. When I boot the PC, the motherboard decides it is an XP 2100+. I have the FSB on 133, and the multiplier dips set to Auto, so I guess it has decided to use 12.5x for the multiplier.

My question is, is there any way to get the multiplier higher that 12.5? The dips have a setting that is called >12.5 but I don't see what that means...

Any tips? Or am I looking at a new motherboard?

Cheers,

muff

The Athlon XP 2700+ have a 333MHz BUS (166x2MHz => 166*13). The multiplier is at 13x and the BUS is @ 133 (that's why 1733MHz or AXP 2100+).

Right, thanks. This mobo only has the option of having hte fsb at either 133 or 100 Mhz. So I am stuffed?

(02:08) Maybe you need a BIOS upgrade.

(02:17) I don't think this MOBO supports 333MHz FSB...
You can try flash the BIOS to the F12 version, but I don't think you will be able to run your CPU @ 166MHz BUS in this MOBO. Does it have a 1/5 PCI divider?

(2:33) Try to set the FSB @ 133MHz by DIPs and @ 166MHz in BIOS.

Yeah, I am already on f12. What is a 1/5 PCI divider?

I'll check the bios settings again, but I am pretty sure there isn't a soft setting for the bus speed.

Thanks for your help with this andlcs

The FSB can be set in BIOS in HARDWARE MONITOR & MISC SETUP/CPU HOST CLOCK.
I think if u press CRTL+F1 key instead of DEL key while the system is booting u will enter in the advanced bios with more settings.

The 1/5 BUS/PCI divider makes your PCI run at normal 33MHz (166/5=33MHz) while using FSB @ 166MHz.

There is some way to set it to 1/5, but its strange, and has problems with IDE, but its workable because of the on-board raid. I ran mine at 166 fsb, to run a Barton, but I had to lower my rams speed seting in bios, as that setting is misleading in bios.

Here is a site talking about the 1/5 divider
