I was looking on Gigabyte's website at the CPU's supported by my motherboard (GA-880GM-USB3) and I was surprised that only a couple of Vishera core CPUs are listed. Just the FX-4350 and FX6300. I'm just wondering if anyone would know why none of the 8 core Visheras are listed. There are 8 core bulldozers listed and there are 125W chips listed. So I'm not sure what the sticking point would be. I was thinking of upgrading my CPU before installing Windows 10 because I heard too many hardware changes after the update and you'd have to purchase a new Windows 10 license. Right now I have an FX6100 and I don't think the 6300 would be enough of an upgrade to warrant the cost.

Here's the list if anyone is interested:

Thanks,

Not sure I understood your answer??? The 4350 is supported. Is it possible that the 8 core CPU could be supported they just didn't do a bios update? What would happen if you put one of those in. Would they set up correctly just not be identified or would they simply not work?

Thanks,

Bob

I'm around trying to also find the best CPU for make an upgrade. As you said, in the official list there are a couple of Visheras. The FX6300 its said to be better in performance than the 4350. Anyway, I have contacted Gigabyte support to see if they can help to find out if an FX8350 could be placed with no problem.

In some threads I read that a FX6300 and FX4350 could cause thermal throttling because of the lack of heatsink. But what about having one? Look at the thread here: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2852710/880gm-usb3-processor.html
So if the above is true, an FX8350 might be impossible to have ¿? Thats the question. My MOBO is rev. 3.1 so the official list is correct. I dont think a Fx6300 or 4350 could have such problems with proper vent and nice PSU (mine is 750w).
Good luck in your query! Lets hope to find a nice response
