I was all set to buy the 970A-UD3. Till I read that if you get sent a rev 1.0 as opposed to a rev 3.0 version - FX CPUs will not work. So you have to use an older am3 cpu in order to flash the bios of the UD3 to allow installation of FX CPUs. Or post it to gigabyte and wait two weeks.
I can't find any UK websites which state rev 3.0. They are all either rev 1.0 or do not state. They all seem to use the same product description which mentions Award bios instead of UEFI - which means they are not rev 3.0 boards.
Does the ASRock 970 Extreme4 suffer from this same problem? It's actually cheaper than the UD3 by £6.
Edit: The Extreme 4 needs a bios of 1.20 or later which came out in 2011.
I opted for the Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0. It's a newer board which supports FX CPUs out of the box. And if it didn't, it supports Flashback anyway so no need to boot the system in order to flash. And it was only £79.75, £2 more than the UD3.
Ok, I'm done talking to myself. Perhaps this thread will help some googler out there.
