I have an old GA-P35-DS3L in perfect working order running an E8400.

I found a QX9770 (BX80569QX9770) and am curious if I should replace the E8400 w/the QX9770? According to this it looks like it is supported

http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Gigabyte/GA-EP35-DS3L.html

However I'm also reading the QX9770 is based on the X48 chipset and only supports DDR3 whereas the GA-P35-DS3L is DDR2.

If someone can please give me a definitive answer on whether I can upgrade this mobo w/the Q9770 and if not what CPU I should be looking at to replace the E8400 with. Thanks!

Thank you both! I'm not sure how I missed the CPU support list on the GA-P35-DS3L page but for some reason I did. Sorry.

Good to know about overclocking. I don't intend to but you never know ;)

So it showed up but won't post. Both my E8400 and E2140 post fine. 🤦‍♂️

Latest BIOS as well. (F9)

Here's the rest of the system specs
  • Sea Sonic SS-750KM
  • 8GB Corsair XMS2 6400
  • AMD RX580
  • 1x DVD+RW
  • 3x Western Digital Black 640GB
Maybe I should pull the RX580 and go back the to HD5870? Alternatively I have a 7600 which doesn't require a rail.

I suppose I could re-flash the BIOS or downgrade to F8 and try again?
