Gigabyte GA-Z170X-GAMING 7

I'm building a PC with the following:
Motherboard:GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-Gaming 7
CPU: Intel core i7-7700, socket LGA1151
MEM: Corsair Vengence LPX DDR4 2400Mhz x2 8GB
Several SATA drives and DVD Reader/Writer

Having put the whole thing together I get 5 long beeps on power up. The PC switches off then starts up again and cycles this way until I disconnect power.
Checking the Gigabyte webiste I get the impression that this may be a CPU problem. Anyone got any ideas as to how I might go about fixing this please.

7700 supports z270, q270, h270, q250, and b250 and your motherboard is z170. You need a BIOS update for your motherboard. If your friend have a Skylake CPU just borrow it do a BIOS update then install your 7700.

Thanks CyberBlade, if only it were that simple 🙁 I live in whoop whoop and as for friends - well - let's not go there. So I need to get a CPU that does work with this MB right? The annoying part is that Gigabyte list the CPU as supported. The MB is REV 1.1 btw.

Yes you need a CPU which works with your motherboard.

Why not get a K CPU if you're getting a Z170X-Gaming 7? That motherboard is meant to be overclocked on, but the i7-7700 is locked.

Look for the i7-6700k.

Unfortunately I have. Turning out to be a bit of a nightmare! There's going to be some good deals coming up on Ebay!

Then I think you must buy a new 7700 compatible motherboard don't go for the z270 because your CPU is locked and it's expensive too. And sell your z170. If you want it to work out of the box.

Or,

borrow a CPU from anyone and do a BIOS update.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking about getting a low end compatible CPU that will work and let me update the BIOS. Not sure how I'd go about borrowing a CPU.

In the end the supplier offered to update the BIOS for a small fee. Postage fees cost more!
