I have a query. I've motherboad Asus P5G41T-MLX, having PCIe x16 slot.

I wanna buy gigabyte geforce gtx 1050 graphics card. On the manufacturer website, it is mentioned that this card requires PCIe 3.0 slot.

So can i install this graphics card in my PCIe x16 slot?

Your help would b much appreciated

Moreover i have 450 psu installed ehich came built-in. So will this card work with this psu as well?

Solution

my first question is how would you know what cpu he has if he hasn't mention it. Second PCI-E 3.0 and PCI-E 2.0 has no notable difference. You can google PCI-E 2.0 Vs PCI-E 3.0 and you will see the results. Thrid the gtx 1050 is not demanding like a gtx 1070 or a gtx 1080 or even a gtx 980 or 970. You will be fine and be able to use the gtx 1050 at its full potential. Your PSU will be able to handle it as long as you have the connections required for the gtx 1050 and I would reccomend you upgrade to a 500 watt 80 plus PSU.
Well yes im aware about the bottleneck. But jyst wanted to inquire about its compatibility.

And what about the psu requirement? Built-in 450W should be enough?

Thankyou very much for your quick response

Can you please tell me which model gigabyte gtx 1050 you will be getting?

THankyou all for sharing your valueable inputs.

I've some points to share with you.

- Firstly, The model of Gigabyte GTX 1050 which im planning to get is this one : https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1050D5-2GD#kf

- Secondly, I checked my psu last night and it doesn't have anymore free 6-pin or 4-pin connectors so If the gfx card requires these connectors I'll need to upgrade my psu as well which will go out of my budget.

- Thirdly, if i need to upgrade my psu for gtx 1050, then I can drop gtx 1050 and instead of this, buy asus RX560 https://www.asus.com/us/Graphics-Cards/RX560-O2G/specifications/. By having RX560 card, I can also upgrade my psu alongwith it and it will cost me the same same as a single gtx 1050 will cost me without psu.

SO, I need your valueable feedback as to which will be better option for me. If these cards do require external additional power. If GTX 1050 doesn't require additional power, then it will be great for me as I won't need to upgrade my psu. But if it does require additional power, then I may better be off getting an RX560 with an psu.

WHats your opinion?

My System is Dual Core E5700 with 6 GB DDR3 RAM/

based on the card that you selected, it does not require any additional pcie 6pin connector. so i would say a half decent psu will do the job since the GPU will only need 75w which it can get from the motherboard slot.

There are gtx 950 cards that require no 6 pin connector (they draw power from the PCI socket through the motherboard and have a TPD of 75W) and perform roughly between an rx 550 and rx 560.

one example https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/GTX950-2G/overview/

If you have more to spend, some 1050 TIs come also without 6-pin, just read here:
