Hello,
Desperate for advice please. I've been recommended to buy a Gigabyte H61M-USB3 mobo together with 8.0GB Corsair 1600mhz Vengeance (2x 4GB in a customized intel core i5 desktop.
Now I've been told that the mobo and mem are not compatible.
Is this correct?

While 4gb modules are not listed on the motherboard's compatibility list, they should still work. It likely means they were not tested yet.

I am just wondering which Corsair Vengeance you are referring to. They have a few different ones. Could it be the ones with the tall useless heatsinks? The reason I ask is that if you plan on using an aftermarket CPU cooler for overclocking, that ram will likely interfere with it.

If you are really concerned, you could get Kingston HyperX or Gskill RipJaws as both are on the approved list. The RipJaws also have the fancy heatsinks, but they are shorter.
