Question Gigabyte X299 UD4 Pro won't boot with registered memory installed

I'm doing a new build and if I install 4 Samsung 64 gig registered modules in the slots indicated (or any others, tried all combinations) the system won't post.
Removed and installed regular old inexpensive 16 gig non ecc modules and it boots fine.
Manual states it can handle up to 512 gig of RAM. Running i7-7820x processor and quadro m6000 graphics with Corsair RM1000x power supply.
Started a support request with Gigabyte online last evening no response as of yet.
Any suggestions??

Hmm ... Gigabyte page says it supports 256 Gb of non-ECC unbuffered memory. Where did you find that it supports registered RAM?

I agree but if you look at the photo in the link, you'll see what I mean.

Since Gigabyte has published two different positions. I think you will have to ask the manufacturer. I don't think anybody here can help you.

This is getting even more confusing. Quoting part of OPs manual:

Support for Registered DIMM (...) operate in non-ECC mode

This would mean that what bignastyid found about CPU not supporting ECC should not matter at all since the motherboard threats the RAM as non-ECC anyway. Right?
