Hey everyone, I bought the Gigabyte Z690 UD AX DDR4 Revision 1.3 motherboard and a i5 13600k and am reading a lot of stuff about needing to update the bios, I'm fine with doing that, but does Revision 1.3 maybe work out of the box with the i5 13600k, ---if not, the thing that has me worried is the bios update files on the Gigabyte website says INTEL VMD Driver needs to be version 19.5 or above before installing a 13th gen processor, but the other bios versions above that don't say that with the red text.

So can I maybe use those above versions without needing to update the VMD driver?. Will Revision 1.3 work out of the box with the processor, and if not, how do I update my INTEL VMD Driver to 19.5 on the old processor / mobo I am on right now?

I've heard that it won't even get to post so if I do install that mobo and processor, how am I supposed to install that version of the Intel VMD Driver after updating the bios? I could be misunderstanding all of this completely and could really use some help.

I'm currently on an i5 9700k and a Prime H370M-Plus from the one I bought and will be installing the new stuff which is why I am asking. From what I am reading on the bios update that issue is on 12th gen which I'm not 12th gen currently, so do I even need to worry about the Intel VMD update?

I also read I can completely delete Windows and not have to worry about the VMD Driver. I've never deleted Windows completely and not reinstalled it, so how can I do that?

Thanks.

The 13th Gen Processor wasn't released when the Z690 chipset came out, you'll need to update the BIOS if you can't get it to POST.

The motherboard has a Q-Flash button/option, which means you can update the BIOS without needing to POST with the system.;
refer to page 6 on this guide.
Do I need to worry about the VMD update? That's what has me worried, if the PC will get past post after the bios update and I can get to Windows and update the VMD that's fine, but this is my worry.

Do I need to worry about the VMD update if I completely delete Windows, replace my old parts with the new parts, update the new motherboards Bios with Q-Flash, and *then* install Windows?

If so, I am going to use the Media Creation Tool to delete Windows, but do I press delete or format?

Is a clean install of Windows your current intention?

If yes, the standard procedure is to boot from the USB stick you made with Media Creation Tool and delete ALL partitions when they are shown to you soon after booting.

Windows will proceed to install to the unallocated space and make the necessary partitions.

Be sure ONLY one drive is connected.

I have no idea about your other issues.

I don't want Windows to be reinstalled with my current MOBO, I want it completely gone and not reinstalled until my new parts are in *after* q-flash installing the bios update with the new mobo

The procedure would be the same for a clean install on your new motherboard, whenever you decide to install Windows again.

You wouldn't "delete Windows".

You would delete all partitions after booting from the USB flash drive you made with Media Creation Tool.

You don't have to format anything.

One question, do I need to do this by pressing the button on the motherboard or can I just start the PC and enter bios and do it there? A guide I looked at showed a guy needing to press a button on the motherboard, but maybe that was unnecessary. Can I enter bios options before post?

Gigabyte website says INTEL VMD Driver needs to be version 19.5 or above before installing a 13th gen processor
Forget about that all you need to do is make sure you have BIOS version F22 at least.

EDIT it's not even what it says!!!!!!!!!!
Please make sure Intel VMD driver is updated to v19.5 or above before installing 13th Gen Processors.
Windows crashes with 13th Gen Processors when Intel VMD (RAID) has been configured on 12th Gen without v19.5 updated.

So I can probably just start the PC and spam the bios key and update / flash it there and it'll be fine? I'm running a single SSD, what I'm worried about is being able to get into the bios once I install the parts. I saw some jank video about pressing a button on the motherboard with it outside of the PC, but if I can just get into the bios on startup the normal way that would be fine.

Yes all the raid/ octane crap is really dead now.
Raid 1 OK if you absolute need 100% up time, raid 0 completely useless with the speed of todays m.2 drives it can actually slow down the drives.

If you cant afford to loose anything on your drive then the best solution is a good backup system not raid anything.

I think the board you can update the BIOS without a CPU installed not sure and not going to look it up for you. If you were that stressed you should of got a Z790 board.

They make Z690 boards for 12th gen then 13th gen comes out they stop the 12th gen boards manufacturing and start making the 13th Z790 boards.

EDIT should be the same.
