I am having problems with my motherboard regarding ram. I can only use one stick of of the ram. When I put in two sticks, the computer won't boot. Both sticks are 4 gb each. I updated the bios but still have no success running two sticks at once. Any help is appreciated.

I am using crucial ballistix tactical tracer 1600mhz (BLT4GD1608DT2TXRG.16FM)
My system is windows 7 with an i7 processor.

What do you mean by that? How would you do that?

Are you putting the sticks in the slots the manual says to? Are both sticks fully seated and locked in?

Try one stick at a time in each of the four slots, then the other stick, and post back which stick(s) worked in which slot(s).

I am putting the sticks in the slots the manual stated. Channel A is slot 2 and 4. Channel B is slot 1 and 3. Both sticks are seated and locked in. Each of the four slots works with one stick and each stick works fine.

what exact processor are you using could be the memory controller not supporting the RAM speed (which is ridiculous but still...)

My processor is an i7-3770k ivy bridge quad core 3.5 ghz

ok try underclocking the RAM to 1333 Mhz and stick both in there. The processors max is 1600 and it supports dual channel so maybe it is too much.

How do I underclock it? I have never done it before and don't know how to do it

Go to advance settings in the BIOS and change the AI overclocking tuner to X.M.P. and look for something like DRAM Frequency (not familiar with Gigabyte Boards). Change that to 1333Mhz for both modules and try to run the system.

there is a good chance that one of your sticks of RAM are bad. can you try testing booting the board with each stick individually? If you find that the system won't boot with one of the sticks, then that stick should be considered bad.

i went into bios and changed it DRAM to 1333Mhz. It still will not boot with 2 sticks. Any solutions? Thanks for your help. I would really like to use the two sticks of RAM

Do you have another pc lying around? Or just a mobo? Stick the two sticks in there and see if it boots. Then if it does It's the mobo's fault. You could RMA it. Tell them the exact model of your RAM modules and they will tell you ifit's compatible or not. If it is, they will most probably replace it(the mobo)
