Hi everyone,

I hope that you have all had a nice weekend.

I am getting ready to do a full reinstall of Windows 7 and thought I would update the BIOS on my Gigabyte Z87X-OC motherboard as part of the process.

Now, I know that updating the BIOS is a risky procedure and that it should only really be done if you are having issues but I'd like to get it up-to-date even though I'm not aware that I am having any issues.

However, I'm not sure which BIOS to update to - F8 or F9c BETA. The F9c BETA BIOS was released in July 2014 and is still listed as BETA on the Gigabyte website. I would have thought if there were any issues with it then it would have been pulled or updated? Can anyone advise if they are running the F9c BETA BIOS please?

Also, my system was a customised prebuilt system which came with several BIOS overclocked profiles. When I update the BIOS will I lose these custom profile settings? If so, I am hoping that I would be able to reload the profile settings if I export them to a USB stick first?

I hope that someone can offer some advice and guidance please.

All the best,

Moley

Solution
F8 - 1.Improve overclocking capability
(Note) Please use the efiflash.exe included in the zip file to update this BIOS.

F9c - 1.Beta BIOS
2.Enhanced Intel K-sku CPU performance

If your not an overclocker, then there is no reason to flash the BIOS. Flashing the BIOS just because there is a newer file available isn't necessary.

Hi Calvin7,

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I actually have a 4770K running at 4.4GHz so would you recommend the F9c BETA given that I have a K-sku CPU or to stick with the F8 BIOS?

Thanks again,

Moley
