Gigabyte z97x Gaming 5 power issue

Hello,

So I'm new as a member here but I have a bit of an issue.
I recently bought a z97z gaming 5 mobo with an Intel i7 4790 processor and a 550w psu with the intention of using it for gaming. The psu only comes with a 4 pin atx output whereas the mobo has an 8 pin 4+4 atx 12v input, but after reading a bit I realised that it would be okay and plugged the 4 into the mobo which let it boot and run fine.
However, the issue I have is that when I ascertained my graphics card that I wanted to use (Radeon r9 280x) the four pin power supply wouldn't actually stretch round it. So I took this as the opportunity to get a molex to 8 pin eps adapter as I was concerned about the possible power supply implications but when I connected it up and the system didn't boot at all!
I have since then removed the graphics card and tried it again and it still doesn't work.
I read a little that eps and 4+4 are mildly different but that it was most likely not going to be the issue.

Any help would be fantastic!

Matt

Both of them would probably work .Pick one and choose it; if you don't like it you can easily return it.
i don't see any 'unselect solutions' here to remove, sure you selected a solution?

Sorry about your issue, for future reference, I'm sure you checked this, but some PSU"s have the wires strapped to the case, if you remove those you get more reach. Also, you can try plugging the in 'out of the case', you may be able to 'reach' it that way, to see if it will post.

Hmm yeah I saw that. But the pins are certainly correct for atx and don't match the PCI.
So I don't think that's thesource of the issue.

Don't quite understand what is meant by "out of the case" but certainly there's no cites on the case to inhibit it.

Tried it with both. The fan on the cpu moves a little when one is in and then there's no movement when there's both in

Weird... Try getting a new molex adapter and check out what happens.

Okay so I've got the converter and the mobo powers up fine and I can run it no bother.
However when I connect the graphics card up it powers up fine but one fan turns slowly and the other doesn't turn at all.
Possibly a power issue maybe? I do however get actual graphics supported from it...
I get an error message when it runs windows experience index if that makes any difference too.
It's present on device manage but requires the driver which I've yet to install...would that make a difference?
