After many successful builds using ASUS motherboards, I'm throwing in the towel on the ROG X670E Crosshair Hero...

Two of these mobos have bricked on me in two days.

First one - loaded latest BIOS (2007) before starting build, had some quirks but got it running, installed Win 11 Pro using just the internal GPU. Installed drivers from the supplied ASUS USB. Rebooted and won't post - hangs with white VGA and green BOOT LEDs lit and 'd6' code. Would not clear with CMOS reset or reverting to older BIOS. ASUS support advised RMA or return to retailer.

Returned to Microcenter and got a replacement Crosshair Hero.

Second one - started with factory BIOS (1709), booted into Windows OK, installed chipset driver update (ASUS USB) and was OK. Planned to do incremental BIOS update (I eventually need to get to 2007) and loaded 1905 successfully via flashback. BOOM - won't post again - same white VGA/green BOOT/ 'd6' display. I thought reverting to BIOS 1709 should resolve the issue - but no - second board now bricked too... ASUS support again advised nothing I could do but return/RMA.

This is my 11th build since 2014 and I've never had an issue. I don't use cheap parts, validate parts are on QVL, very careful with construction and BIOS updates. Microcenter only had two of these boards in stock and both of them bricked on me - so I will be considering other options. Sadly, this board had exactly the features I wanted and none that I didn't care about (I check reviews and download manuals for all mobos I'm considering before buying).

This build is with 7950X and intent to upgrade CPU when 9000 series is available and stable. This strategy worked great with my X570 Crosshair VIII and 3950X and later upgrade to 5950X.

Planning on getting the MSI MEG X670E ACE and see how that does. I've done builds with Gigabyte mobo (2), ASRock (3) and ASUS (5) so thought I'd try something new...???

Fingers crossed!
