Hi whenever I turn on the computer and the bootscreen appears, funny lines and flashes appear. When Windows loads up, lines appear across the screen. If I open a game those glitches still don't go away. I tried to find the latest update for a RADEON 9800 PRO driver for Windows XP but can't find one.. here are some pictures -

I tried reinstalling my driver from a CD but after reinstallation when Windows loads up, the computer freezes and I can only access on Safe Mode so I did a system restore and now I'm still stuck like this..

So my final question is..

How the hell do I fix this?
If I need to update my driver where can I find the right update? (I've been searching ages and I'm not sure which one I need..)

From the screenshots, it looks like you are running Windows Vista, not XP, or are you using a modified theme?

I suggest you install the latest driver from AMD, which can be downloaded from http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx (you will need to choose your specific options from here)

An educated guess would be that you are using Vista 32-bit, in which case the specific driver you need can be downloaded at http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/common-vista32, however I would strongly recommend you check that it is Vista32 which are using instead of Vista64 or XP with a modified theme.

New VGA solves everything...your 9800 might be on its way out. You definatly need to dust every now and then, that might be an issue. Do you know what its temperature is?

Sorry to report, Your video card is on its last leg....Either the ram has gone bad, or the core has overheated...but if its bad right on startup(Post screen) as you say, then i doubt heat since that takes some time to build up. A new card is the only option you have now....

Back a few years ago when I had one of those, mine did the same thing. The above poster is correct, my friend, your card is toast. The good news, as others have mentioned, is that a new card won't cost you too much even for a DX 10 card.
