So I bought a pc from Craig's list and the windows 7 is obviously not a legit licensed copy......

I get that message every 10 minutes or so.......

Anyways, I ran the "upgrade to windows 10" tool and everything went fine......

But here is where I'm confused.....it asked for the license fee......

If I purchase a key from the website, will I have a fully working windows 10 OS?

When I rebuild my pc in a few months (cpu/motherboard) will that license still work? Or is it locked to my current motherboard ?

I'm really confused on what to do next......

If you are currently running a pirated version of windows I would advise freshly installing windows from a disc (or usb boot) after you have formatted the hard drive. If you upgrade from the pirated copy you may end up having problems in the future.

Regarding your upgrade I would wait until you upgrade the motherboard and cpu before you install the OS as you will have to reinstall it for new drivers etc...

I read I can create a whole new copy of windows by using a flash drive and the "media creation tool" from Microsoft website.....than I would just putlrchase the license key
...

I would like to do everything from home and avoid ordering a boxed version of the software......

Any suggestions ?
