I was reading the latest collumn here, and while I have noticed that the opinions published always seem to be very negative, it did start me thinking.

Particularly, I was wondering where a guy could get some information on the economics of a small computer shop...like what kind of inventory to keep, marketing, etc. Are there books or websites? How do you go from compulsive tech reader to independant professional? I don't know if that is in my future, but I can certainly say I have no idea where to begin.

Go find some local small business courses. Running a computer shop is less to do with IT than it is to do with general sales, accounting, and business practice. Remember too that you're unlikely to get rich by reselling hardware - the margins are too tight, and forget about trying to be the cheapest.
