I've been going through complete hell trying to upgrade this PSU. I bought an alienware aurora r6 with an i7 7700 and an NVIDIA GeForce 1080. I finally had enough money for a gaming computer. I wanted to build my own but the greediness of cryptocurrency miners making pc parts prices skyrocket, they left me with little choice: I had to buy a prebuilt gaming pc. I didnt want to buy iBuyPower or CyberTron, because ive heard horror stories of people buying their computers only for them to fry days, weeks, or months later so I went with a reliable company: Alienware. When I was at the store trying to buy it i kept asking: WHATS THE WATTAGE ON THE PSU? WHATS THE WATTAGE ON THE PSU? It didnt say it ANYWHERE on the box, they even tried looking it up online for me and COULDNT FIND IT. I thought oh, it cant be that bad, it has a 1080 after all. Only until later I found out that I had a 450 watt power supply . The computer runs perfect and temp stays around 80c, but theres always the fear that I have that the meager power supply theyve put in will fail me, and the computer will explode. Ive been trying so hard to get a new PSU, already returned 2 of them. I need an 8 PIN TO 8 PIN CPU POWER CABLE CONNECTOR for my PSU to work because there is an 8 pin slot on the motherboard called "GPU_PWR" that apparently is needed. Ive searched for hours for an alienware replacement PSU to no avail. I just want to have a PSU in my pc thats powerful enough so i dont have to worry and know I can upgrade my GPU in the future. Ive tried looking for products on dells website, but all they have is refurbished garbage PSUs that are like 250 watts. ive tried calling alienware tech support, only for them to hang up on me constantly. I wasnt even rude or anything, I just ask them a question about how i can upgrade my psu and they literally hang up in my face. Please someone help please someone give me a link on Amazon or SOMETHING of a PSU that is compatible with my AlienWare Aurora r6 100%.
Again, my MOTHERBOARD has an 8 PIN SOCKET that says GPU_PWR on it. Its essential for the PSU to work. From what I heard you cant use a PCI-E cable for this. I tried putting in a 6+2 PCI E cable in and it didnt fit anyway.
Please someone help me with this, so I can move on with my life.
