Gonna build a computer for gaming need expert advise

Hi guys,

Im planning to build a PC with the specs below. My question is, will this be enough to run games on ultra settings (e.g witcher 3, batman arkham, GTA V)? can this also enough to play upcoming games for the next few years? Any changes or need to replace? Thanks guys!!

Processor: i5 4690 3.5ghz
Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth z97 mark 1
GPU: Palit GTX 970 jetstream
PSU: Seasonic X-650 gold plus
Memory: Gslick Ripjaw 1x 8gig
Cooler: Noctua NH-D14
Casing: Aerocool GT-R black edition

2 x 4 gb ram sticks would be better, for dual channel

it takes like a 980 to run batman ultra with gameworks off, its currently a shit port

It's capped at 30 fps, and breaks a lot of stuff if you turn off the limiter.

witcher 3 should run close to 60 with some settings turned down

gta 5 would run very well, also some settings turned down

Should run all those games great but maybe not with all the settings maxed (hairworks on witcher 3 would probably drop quite a few fps, also should not use Anti aliasing, etc..). Pretty sure batman is not optimized yet so will see some trouble with that one still. As for the future it should run them pretty good quality at 1080p and 1440p if you don't turn every setting on max.

I would advise against the palit gtx 970 and go with gigabyte, evga, or MSI for a 970. Have not been impressed with their quality control on video cards.

For PSU seasonic is great but I would go with 750 W. Just to give myself the option of upgrading graphics card or picking up another in the future.

2x4 GB of g.skill RAM would be better than just a single module of 8 GB

Everything else is fine.

ohh thanks, that's good to hear. all i want is to play those games smoothly ^_^ how about some upcoming games for next few years? is there a big jump in recommended requirements for those games? thanks

The reason its the cheapest is because generally it doesn't perform as well as the others, their warranty is pretty terrible (only in certain regions and its either 1 or 2 years), and customer support is mediocre. I would stay away from Palit for a higher end graphics card like a 970. EVGA has 3 year warranty and best customer service on their cards, MSI and gigbyte are more affordable (not sure on their warranties) and have decent customer service.

similar performance without overclocking, difference would be in overclocking speeds, temperatures under load, sound levels, longevity (how long it will last you), and warranty.

Can't say that with certainty. Assuming you get good card 2-3 years is reasonable estimate but obviously there is always a chance you can get a bad card that will not last long. If price is the major factor for you then go ahead and compare palit to the others and choose the lowest one, just know it is a bigger risk.

There's no practical difference running single channel or dual channel when using a dedicated GPU. 1x8GB will be fine.

There is just a practical difference - you have 1 working stick of RAM if one fails while you wait to replace it.

And if you want to go 32GBs of RAM in the future you have to sell your modules of 4GB, which will be worth less than an 8GB module.

I wouldn't buy 4GB modules in 2015, either 1x8GB or go all out and get 2x8GB to max out the slot.
