hi i have a dell optiplex 380 desktop (4gb ram,320gbgdd,core 2 duo e7500,geofrce 8400gs,235watt psu) and i want to upgrade my 8400gs to something newer that runs under 50watts and will be able to play black ops 1 at 35+ fps on low settings and also needs to bve a low profile card for 40-60$, thanks in advance

You didn't though, you assumed that the recommended power supply was how much power the GPU consumed not what was recommended for the system as a whole... He is correct that the 7750 uses 55W, the 6570 uses 50, and the 6450 uses 31W, that is their designed power, that is how much the card itself uses.

Most of your low profile cards are going to be around that power level, without a PCI-E connector the card only has access to 75W. Something like a 384 core GT 630 would be a massive upgrade from your 8400 GS while consuming very little power ~25W

thanks hunter your a beaut and also will this card run black ops 1 well? or decently we (40fps on low setting)

It should, COD Black Ops 1 system requirements weren't very high, and with several generations of improvements that 630GT is on par or better than the 8800 GT that is required to run COD Black Ops 2 so I would suspect you will be able to find some playable settings to work with, though you won't be able to do 2560x1600 with 16x AA, i don't think you were expecting to be able to at 50W and $60

also i have my geforce 8400gs running at 40 watts and it works fine on my 235 watt single rail of 14amp psu so do you think i should be fine running the gt630?

how come it looks like the gold pins dont strech across much of the card is it a diffrent type of slot?

Looks like it is either a 4x or an 8x PCI-e card, it will work just fine in the 16x slot, it just appears they decided it'd be cheaper and not affect anything if they didn't put the full 16x on there. A GT 630 certainly doesn't need a full 16x slot to feed it data fast enough.

okay so it will work in the x16 slot just wont fill the slot up all the way and it wont be loose or anything right?

The small bit at the end keeps everything from rocking, it will be fine. PCI-e slots were designed so that you can put a 1x, 4x, 8x, or 16x card into a 16x slot. Some boards have 4x and 8x slots with the back cut out so you can put 16x cards into them. PCI-e autonegotiates to determine the appropriate amount of lanes to use.

also i believe this card doesnt come with a low profile bracket so 1 would my low profile bracket on my 8400gs work on this card and 2 could i just take the full size bracket off cut it down with a hack saw then resuse it?
