I was thinking about getting a fx 6300 but are the 2 extra cores necessary can I get just as good fps with phenom ii x4 955 I have a r9 270

Solution
The FX 6300 would be better for games than the 860k because of the L3 cache, and it's overclockable too.

It's a decent upgrade from a Core 2 Quad, especially for multi threaded applications.
I have a fx-6300 stock clocks and it runs planetside 2 at 32fps locked and it keeps at that fps really well, until smoke comes in and makes me lag. SPECS: zotac gtx 750 ti 2gb gddr5, FX-6300, rocketfish dual fan heat sink, antec 450w, asrock extreme3 970 r2.0, western digital 310gb hdd, cricial 8gb ddr3 1600mhz single stick ram, windows 10 home 64bit. i run games okay but i would suggest a 3gb gddr5 or a 4gb gddr5. once you get passed the bottleneck with a core2 quad it is all about the gpu for certain games. planetside 2 is a cpu intensive game and this cpu runs good for it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxLZpKYcAKQ
i did a video for the first time to show a budget build with decent performances at stock speeds. i reccomend the fx-6300 for people who are just looking for something to get out of the major bottleneck area and into gaming. a budget build that people ask for and will perform as good as some i3's and some i5's. only some. it will perform as good as an i7 in some task but not in multi-threading wise. so i guess i am a proud owner of a fx-6300. soon to get a 8350 though.
