yes, i was considering the msi b150 m3. on pc/partpicker.com it says i need a bios update for some kaby lake series. not currently a processor im interested in. will a western digital 1tb hdd 7200rpm be good or do you have a comparible ssd recomendation?

Its normal that it requires BIOS update as the Kaby Lake is new.

SSD or HDD depends on your budget. For a budget gaming build 128 GB SSD is good for operating system for fast boot.

Yeah, dont get a 100 series motherboard unless you have a skylake cpu. Those boards paired with a kabylake cpu like the i5 7500 will not get you to POST and get into the BIOS.

i dont know if fast boot is a requirement of mine, how long will the boot take do you think? crucial has a pci-e ssd 275gb for 90 dollars. i heard those are good but i dont know about that particular one. i heard samsung is good 250gb for around 100 bucks. 50 for a WD seems easy and reliable, i just dont want to have slow games and long load times. but if its the difference of 5 seconds, i can upgrade to a ssd later. im also trying to get some monitors atm as well. asus has some on amazon for like 110 3ms delay which is good i think?

Not only the fast boot, it also improves file read / write operations faster than the HDD. Install the games in SSD & during the game the files are been read & write faster so you get a good time. Monitor with response time 3 ms is good.

Z170 wouldn't be beneficial to him for that CPU..
A good board would be the B150 Hyper, it actually allows him to overclock with BLCK.

How Z170 wouldn't be beneficial? you mean it need a BIOS update? But both do require it. Do I miss something here? Please explain it.

will G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) be compatible with MSI B150 Gaming M3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard and run at 2666. that is one of the listed speeds of the mobo but the ripjaws is said to be for z170 and x99 platforms. if it doesnt work confusion will set in and a nuclear meltdown is imminent. would you have another suggestion? the msi B150 has four 288-pin slots and i was planning on adding another 8gb of the gskil v series in the near future. fingers crossed. thanks
