Hey,

I'm in need of a good socket 775 to my good friend.

Right now he is running an old old Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13 Ghz
http://ark.intel.com/products/27249/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-E6400-2M-Cache-2_13-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB

It's overclocked to 2.4 Ghz only, because it is dying.

It's running on a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P, so he has a better mobo and does have 6 GB PC6400 ram.
With the games he plays, he is still find with this platform, but an upgrade would be great.
He has a copper Zalman 9700 cooler.

Thinking Pentium E5300, Pentium E6300 or something like that (2.66-3 Ghz dual core with good OC potential)
or a quad core like Q6600, Q8300 or so.

He has been playing with a 8600GTS, but it is about to die as well, so now he will get my spare card (EVGA GT 240 1 GB), which should be fine for his WoW, LoL etc. gaming.

So where will be the best/cheapest place to get one of these CPU's?

Snag a Q6600, the can be had for under $75.00 and they clock to around 3.4-3.6
I actually still use a Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz in my back up machine. Paired with a GTX-260 and 4GB of RAM I still have yet to find any game unplayable @ medium/high settings and the systems chews through any task in respectable time as well. It's not the latest and greatest tech but still a plenty capable intel quad.
